This is a 1 of 1 custom piece hand crafted with no machinery involved. This design begins with a vintage 80’s A-2 Avirex. From a front facing view you can see the large lower front pockets are completely covered in solid color hand stitched leather. The dominant leather color I chose for this piece was a very dormant yellow. I wanted a color that compliments the organic discoloration of the jacket. Layered over the solid lower pockets are hand stitched details that I deconstructed from the interior of the jacket. The right pocket exhibits an attractive lady sending her regards to the troops and the left pocket presents a WW2 Blood chit. Above the lower pockets are the original Avirex patches with reinforcement single stitching in an outline to accentuate the appearance. On the left chest, I removed the original Avirex signature and layered it with a patch to give the logo some depth. The collar of the jacket originally had faux fur. The faux fur on these vintage pieces tends to not age well so I shaved it down and replaced it with a full leather lining. The outside of the collar is detailed with a fastened leather button strap as well. The right side profile consists of an original Avirex patch and two custom patches placed vertically down the arm. The middle patch reads the 996+4 Signature. From this side of the collar you can read the original USN script. The wrist cuffs as well as the entire base of the jacket is reinforced with black leather patchwork. Leather replacements on the cuffs and base do significantly restrict elasticity. The base of the jacket when fully zipped is 34 inches. On the left side profile the lower patch is suede to create contrasting texture with the iconic scale layered on top. On the upper left arm is an original Avirex patch. The back of the jacket highlights a full leather WW2 Blood chit framed in leather patchwork. As with all of my pieces, this is a true 1 of 1, guaranteed to never be duplicated or mass produced.
